Vocabulary

roadtrip (V) / go on a roadtrip (N) --> drive a long way to one/more destinations.

--> The focus is more on the journey than the destination.

'We roadtripped around the country.'



telecommute (V) / telework (V) --> work online and offsite.

--> Most of the time, these refer to working from home. 

'I have to telecommute until the end of next month.'

 

미국인에게 notebook 이란 우리가 생각하는 노트.

한국에서 랩탑컴퓨터를 지칭할때 노트북이라는 말을 많이 쓰지만, 사실 노트북은 콩글리쉬.

미국인에게 '노트북' 은 우리가 생각하는 노트.

 

미국인에게 우리가 생각하는 노트북 컴퓨터 이야기를 하려면 laptop 이라는 표현을 써야합니다.

 

 

semi-basement --> basement that is partially underground.

--> semi-basement apartment.

participation points --> points you receive for attending and participating in class

--> These impact your final grade in a class.

Sentence Structure & Grammar.

(X) I started to operate a blog. (okay, but not a common collocation)

(O) I started to blog / run a blog. (more natural expressions)

 

They can do that work. (uncountable -- duties and jobs)

 

work (countable) --> two meanings.

'The works of Van Gogh are magnificent.' (an artist's pieces)

'I read about the works of Jesus.' (specific actions, usually religious)

 

this / last (time) --> This can refer to the previous, current, or next year depending on time/tense.

As of this August, I can go on a sabbatical.

 

 

Every + N --> ALWAYS singular.

'Everybody / everyone is using a virtual background.'

 

 

I need to put on my work clothes.
